Backend Developer (Software Engineer)

Location: remote/hybrid, Europe

Type: Part-time/Full-time

We are CleanTech startup building the next generation of digitalized and environmentally aware electrical grids. Our core technology is a multi-actor decentralized network that traces emissions of electricity to empower companies to reduce their carbon footprint, making a critical contribution to protecting the future of our planet. 

Emissium now has an exciting opportunity for someone to join our team and be at the heart of our software development strategy! In this role, you will architect, build and deploy the back-end systems and services that power our blockchain as well as our consumer products.

Your responsibilities:

  • Develop easy-to-use software across architectures and operating systems.

  • Build and rebuild production systems to deliver new product capabilities and to handle increasing scale.

  • Extend functionality and refactor codebases in Python.

  • Write clear, secure code and unit testing that runs on Windows, Linux and MacOS.

  • Work with a remote team of software engineers.

What you bring to the team:

  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience at tech and product-driven companies.

  • Mastery of some backend language (we use Python).

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB and time series data, e.g. InfluxDB).

  • Knowledge of some relational database is a plus (we use SQLite).

  • Proficiency of network protocols (HTTP, websockets), security layers (TLS/SSL) and APIs (REST and RPC).

  • Experience with blockchain and asynchronous programming are much welcome.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

  • Cryptography experience is a plus but not required.

  • A highly productive person, who is largely self-guided in a remote role.

  • Ability to move fast in an environment where things are sometimes loosely defined and may have competing priorities.
